Charlottetwon - What a Jewel!!!

Last weekend I spent some time in Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island). There were a bunch of rock concerts on that appealed to my family (Simple Plan and Daughtry being the highlights). We stayed in the hotel near the concerts and since I wasn't in to standing still for 5 hours at a time, I did a lot of wandering while others did the concerts.

It's the first time I've gone there as a real tourist in a long, long time. Man what a beautiful little city and I have to say that they equal or exceed the Newfoundlanders in friendliness - and from me that one BIG statement. I just loved downtown Charlottetown - the buildings, the shops, the quaint atmosphere - right down to the statue, not of some guy standing up there looking at you, but sitting on one of the benches on the street. You'll see smiles and people wanting to help you everywhere - and they're not phony "can I help you", rehearsed speeches.

I know we all realize that Helen (Study Abroad) runs a great camp, but I see downtown Charlottetown as being interesting for adults and almost adults. Think about it for the future. It's a big tourist destination that is suffering severely from the economic downturn and the fact that Americans just don't leave their country as they used to - at least not to Canada. Helen runs a great language school and we'll try again to get PEI interested in international school students.

I love Charlottetown and I never thought I'd say that.
