How to be a Homestay Family

How do I become a Homestay Family?

  • FIll out and submit the Homestay Application Form, including all family information, hobbies, interests etc.
  • We will visit your home to inspect it and make sure it meets the requirements of our program.  We will also take photos of your home for our records.
  • Complete a police record check
  • We will match students with your home (based on availability, hobbies, interests, etc.)

Homestay terms and conditions

 

1.         Provide room and board for students. (1 room per student, unless otherwise requested)

 

2.         The room should have basic furniture which includes a bed, a closet and desk or study table, chair and good lighting in each of the student’s rooms.

 

            Other requirements are: a functional smoke alarm in bedroom or hallway, mattress pad and pillow protector.

 

3.         The rooms provided will be for the duration of the homestay period.  Should a room change be necessary, please notify SAC.

 

4.         Please provide each student with a house key if you lock doors.

 

5.         Provide 3 healthy meals a day.  Snacks should be available to students at any time.
Also, each student should be
provided with:

                            
* Use of laundry facilities.

* Transportation to and from the school.

* Airport pick up and drop off.

SAC will call you to inform you of the arrival time of your student.  

(Please pick up welcome kit at SAC office in the week prior to the 
arrival of the student). If this is not possible, please tell us to make other arrangements.   

                                     

6.       Please speak English when the students are present; it may be difficult at first, until the student becomes more comfortable with the language.

 

7.       SAC is not responsible for long distance phone calls made by the student or for any other expenses incurred while students stay with you.

 

8.       Please contact SAC immediately if difficulties arise. You will then be able to work with SAC toward resolving any issues.

 

9.       Please do not request the student to babysit for you, or request the student to do housework for you apart from keeping their room clean and tidying up the bathroom after they have used it.

 

10.     SAC’S aim is to provide learners and homestay families with an enjoyable experience.

 

11.     Homestay Families will receive remuneration for this service.
