Teacher Cindy taught the students tips and techniques in watercolors. The finished products were amazing!
Tomorrow is Mardi Gras, otherwise known as Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, and, most importantly, Pancake Tuesday. At some point tomorrow, many in select parts of the English speaking world will make a point of sitting down to eat a plate of pancakes. You may feel the need to share this tradition with your students, but don’t be surprised if some of them have never even heard of this tasty treat. What a great opportunity to teach students about a great cultural tradition, and about English language recipes and cooking lexis at the same time! I found the following resources which will make great jumping off points for your plans:
Pancake Tuesday – ESOL Courses -This site has some great info about the holiday. Check out the pancake recipe quiz and worksheet.
How to Make Pancakes – YouTube – This YouTube video would work really well for a listening activity.
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick reminder that SACLI will be closed on Monday, February 20th – Islander Day!
One of the main goals of my posts is to help ESL teachers find and acess the best resources online without doing endless hours of searching. In the spirit of these goals, I anounced that I would be choosing one great website to showcase every month. It is time, once again, to anounce this month’s pick:
Why it’s worth a look:
Lanternfish, also referred to as ‘Bogglesworld’, is a gold mine of printable ESL resources. They are a great resource for flashcards, writing prompts, games, crossword puzzles and much much more. They even have a job center with a job board and advice for TESL newbies.
What to check out first:
ESL Flashcards -This is the most popular resource on Lanternfish by far. Flashcards are arranged by subject and there’s even a great list of ideas on what to do with them. I’ve seen many teachers at our school use these images to create ‘words walls’ in their classrooms.
Holiday Worksheets - This is one of the best holiday specific collections out there, and there is so much more than just worksheets to be had. I really like the printable greeting cards and the rhyming riddles.
It was a beautiful day for a Horse and Sleigh ride with our SACLI students. Sarah and Rory were excited to experience this fun winter activity!
