The Kiran Village or Kiran Centre defines itself as a “Centre for Education and Rehabilitation of Children and Youngsters with Different Abilities”. It is situated near the city of Varanasi (formerly known as Benares), Uttar Pradesh, India, and was founded in 1990 by a Swiss nurse-nun and other people, who discovered the exigency to support disabled children.

Kiran Village gives handicapped children (a more correct definition would be the one mentioned above: children with different abilities) especially of poor families (most of them affected by polio or cerebral palsy), a chance to attend school and to undergo a vocational training to be able to earn their living as an adult or to be able to run a household. So these children don’t depend any longer on the goodwill of their family or are no longer the blemish of their family. Furthermore in the center they have if required physiotherapy, hydro- and hippotherapy and can get orthopedic or other aids to move themselves.

With all the terrible things happening in the world today, it’s always nice to hear about groups of people who strive to help, to make a difference.
